Global Cat Day
People from every country and every walk of life show compassion for cats all year round, in ways big and small. On Global Cat Day, October 16, we’re rallying people around the world to take our pledge to speak up for the cats in their communities and show kindness for all catkind.
Too often, local policies lead to community cats being taken from the only home they’ve ever known—the outdoors. This is inhumane and ineffective. The purpose of Global Cat Day is to strengthen support for humane policies that protect cats. Each signed pledge is an important step toward that goal.
Expanding Our Reach
A quick word about our name. Global Cat Day replaces National Feral Cat Day, the annual event Alley Cat Allies has held since 2001. Why the change? We decided it was time for our annual event to reflect what’s been true all along: We inspire and share information with cat advocates around the world. Our lifesaving work takes us all over, from fighting cruel cat policies in Australia to assisting with community cat spay and neuter in the Galapagos Islands.
Just like National Feral Cat Day, Global Cat Day is a day of action and advocacy. If you’ve hosted or participated in activities for National Feral Cat Day in the past, you can again as part of Global Cat Day.
The difference this year is that we’re spreading the word far and wide, so we can get more people to champion the great work our supporters have been doing. This name change isn’t about shifting focus from the critical work we do in the United States. Instead, it’s about engaging people worldwide to help us defend the rights of cats. We’re simply shouting from more rooftops.
Participate in Global Cat Day
Anyone can participate in Global Cat Day! All you need to do is sign our pledge. With your help, our goal is to get 100,000 people to promise to be allies to cats and support compassionate policies that protect cats in their communities. Once you sign our pledge, please share it with your friends, family, and followers. Each sign-up is an important step toward convincing legislators around the globe to adopt lifesaving policies for cats.
If you’d like, you can also hold an event in honor of Global Cat Day and register it with us! Whether you host a Trap-Neuter-Return workshop, spay/neuter clinic, cat food drive, or another activity to help cats and spread awareness, we want to know about it! Once you log your event, you’ll have access to our free digital toolkit, complete with discounts on an array of items, including our education materials, humane box traps, and Alley Cat Allies gear. With our online toolkit, you’ll have everything you need at your fingertips!
