This awesome shirt really says it all. A gem from Etsy seller MindfulWear, and the perfect item to take to the cabin/cottage/lakehouse this summer and throw on after a fun day of beaching, adventuring, and BBQ-ing. We love cats too.
Last week, Cordy the cat was lucky enough to receive an Aikiou Interactive Cat Feeder to add to her toy collection! This BPA-free feeder features different grooves where you can hide bits of food or treats for kitty to fish out, creating a mentally stimulating task for your cat. It comes with interchangeable tubes so you can make it harder or easier for your cat to grab the food. Cordy's never been mistaken for a rocket scientist, so we put in the easiest tubes and let her get to work! After a little puzzling, she worked out how to get to her treats. We've been replenishing it all weekend and she's been snacking in peace.
Cordy doesn't have any weight issues, but be sure to use low calorie treats if your cat is battling the bulge. The Aikiou provides useful mental stimulation (firing up Cordy's ageing brain cells) and is fast becoming one of Cordy's favourite toys!
Talk about determination! This adorable cat doesn't let something as inconsequential as a closed door (or 5 closed doors) stop him (her?) from getting outside. With summer well on the way, we can certainly relate to the need to get outside this weekend. Have a great one, everybody!
Off to the farmer's market or the park this weekend? Stow your stuff in this funky and roomy tote from Etsy seller Los Pajaritos. Featuring an inquisitive-looking kitty, this organic cotton tote is perfect for stowing and going.
It took both Penny and Lyle no time at all to figure out the source of these laser beams, but that didn't stop them from enjoying the FroliCat Dart Duo. Admittedly, these two are the smarter, more wily, hunters of the bunch, but the noise the toy makes (it isn't loud, but there is a noise) scared off my other cats who might have fallen for its tricks.
The random rotating feature really did lure the cats in, and it kept them well-entertained as long as I had it on. The operating instructions warn about the danger of the laser affecting both cat and human eyes, but the angle of projection on the lasers (combined with the cats' natural curiosity) made it an inevitablity that the laser would shine in their eyes at some point. Something to consider, for sure.
The FroliCat Dart gets points for absolute ease of setup (just pop batteries in and go), and for style (the sleek machine won't junk up your space), but loses points for the noise the toy makes while in operation, and the laser-in-the-eye potential.
Time to spoil the cats with some homemade goodies! These Chewy Cat Treats from Joy the Baker are the perfect way to show your love (and undisputed kitchen prowess). The recipe is flexible enough that you can adjust it to suit any dietary requirements or finicky feline eaters. It's always nice to know exactly what goes into the food your pets are eating, and making your own treats is one way to do so. A fun project for a Saturday afternoon that your cat will thank you for!
These sweet little Wraparound Cat Rings from Etsy seller OnlyCats are unique and just plain cute. Who doesn't want a tiny kitten hanging on to their finger all day?
These rings would make a great gift for a fan of felines, or an even better treat for yourself.
This is a DIY project for those crafters out there who aren`t afraid to go searching for the perfect item in a vintage store. If your cats are anything like ours, they absolutely love siting on or in suitcases. Maybe it is the knowledge that their companions might be leaving them soon, but as soon as the suitcase is pulled out, it becomes the hottest spot in the house.
This Chic on the Cheap Pet Bed from Brooklyn Limestone is a stylish project that will satisfy your cat`s ongoing desire to sit in a box. We found it a little sad (funny) that the blogger`s cat didn`t want to use the gorgeous, reversible pillow she spent a significant amount of time crafting. Classic cats. Still, the suitcase bed itself was a home run and would be a chic addition to any home.
This adorable cat nail art is surprisingly easy to pull off, and you can customize the colors to match your own cat! So cute.
First, gather your supplies.
You will need:
A base coat color
Two nail art polishes with long thin brushes (like the ones used nail salons, which can be purchased at most drug stores). We've used black and green here.
Now that you are ready to go, it's masterpiece time.
Paint your nails a base color and let dry completely
Take your black nail art pen and draw a straight line across the tip of your fingernail, creating enough space for eyes, and fill in the space on the tip of your nail. This will be the face of your cat.
Draw two triangles on the top of the line you drew, creating cat ears. Allow the black polish to dry fully.
With the green pen draw two small ovals in the head, and then, after a bit of drying time finish them off with a small slit of black down the middle of the eyeball.
Your gorgeous cat nails are now ready to share with the world (or at least your Instagram feed)!
Now that spring has returned, feral cat colonies have become more visible. The winter of 2012 saw record snowfall in many places, including Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In the city, massive volunteer effort in the fall saw the construction of over 1,000 shelters for feral colonies through bi-weekly building meetups that worked to use donated and sponsored materials to provide a low-cost and practical solution for kitties stuck outside in inclement weather. Since each shelter can hold up to three cats, this helped shelter thousands of cats in Toronto's TNR colonies from icy winds and snow.
